Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flatten the Bionic A16 in Geekbench
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 prototype unit scores higher than the market leading Bionic A16 chip
Qualcomm has been producing the best chipset for Android devices for a long time. The Qualcomm Snapdragon chips are best in their class. But when it is compared to Apple’s Bionic it lags behind. Apple’s Bionic chipsets are seen to be more capable. But it seems to be the end of the story.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips are improving rapidly since the Snapdragon 888+ release. The newer Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the 8 Gen 2 were appreciated among the tech community for the improved thermal and power efficiency. The phones that came with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 performed well as well as controlled the overheating. Though it was still far from the competition with Apple’s Bionic specially in terms of benchmarks.
But according to a rumor posted on a Korean community Meeco, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was alleged to score highest ever as a smartphone on Geekbench. As per the screenshot shared with the rumor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scores 1,930 in single core and 6,236 in multi-core segment.
This is the highest ever score as a smartphone on Geekbench. The industry leading Bionic A16 chip scores 1892 in single core and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 bits it even as a prototype.
As a prototype hardware there is much work to be done before the final release. So it will improve over time. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is rumored to feature a 1+5+2 cluster combination. It is said to be 20% more power efficient than its past 8 Gen 2.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 allegedly made with TSMC advanced 4nm process. The single core is Cortex X 4 and 5×Cortex A7XX with 2 Cortex A5XX cores.
If the rumor comes true then it will be a hard time for Apple to stay at the top in terms of raw performance.
