Qualcomm is working in 5G since the age of Snapdragon 855. The last generation 5G modem was the Snapdragon X75 5G that was used in Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Qualcomm announced the X75 5G modem capable of 10-band carrier aggregation for mmWave frequencies. Now it’s time for a upgrade.

Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon X80 Modem

Today at MWC 2024, Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon X80, their next generation 5G Modem-RF system. This new modem will be used in upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.

According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon X80 5G Modem will come equipped with AI features that will optimize the coverage, speed, location accuracy, reduced latency and power efficiency. Previous Snapdragon X75 also came with Qualcomm 5G AI Processor Gen 2 for AI processing for network optimization.

Another advertised improvement of Snapdragon X80 Modem is enhanced carrier aggregation for sub-6 GHz 5G band. This is the lower speed 5G band with wider coverage area compared to mmWave. The carrier aggregation for mmWave 5G bands is already there since its predecessor.
